End Reactive Parenting Habits and Create Peace at Home

Virtual Event

Program Takeaways:

Yelling backfires. It triggers kids’ fight/flight/freeze, shutting down the prefrontal cortex—so they can’t learn in that moment and are more likely to model yelling later.

Lower your baseline reactivity. Prioritize sleep, movement, and supportive relationships; add a simple mindfulness “pause” practice; and get curious about your own triggers/baggage.

Use the 3Rs in the heat of the moment: Recognize you’re triggered (“name it to tame it”), Remove yourself if everyone’s safe, Resource your body with longer exhales (4-in/6-out), shake it out, calming postures, and brief mantras.

Solve conflicts by needs, not power. Ask, “How can we get everyone’s needs met?” Over time, less power plays = more influence, less resentment, more cooperation.

Relationships are the point. Strong, connected relationships are the best predictor of long-term well-being; calmer modeling = more cooperative, emotionally healthy kids.

Come gain powerful insights for calming the stress-response when difficult emotions arise and discover actionable strategies for cultivating respectful communication, effective conflict resolution, and reflective listening. Participants will learn how to break the cycle of “reactive parenting” and respond to stress in more skillful, quiet and constructive ways.

Parenting is hard work, and it’s easy to react without thinking. Often, letting emotional autopilot take over results in losing it. Clarke-Fields will detail how we can respond to our kids thoughtfully while keeping our cool. She will offer a compassionate formula to understand the biology behind yelling—which is the first step in gaining control over our reactions, and she will share how we can rewire the brain’s responses to stressful situations and model calm.

Clarke-Fields is the host of Mindful Mama Podcast, a mindfulness mentor, a highly sought-after global speaker and the bestselling author of many books including “Raising Good Humans” and “Mindfulness Meditation.”

Please share information about this event with friends and relatives. All are welcome to our free weekly GPS events, and no registration is required.
