Jennifer Breheny Wallace with Dr. Lisa Damour

Mattering: The Tension Between a “Never Enough” Mentality, Purpose, and Student Well-being

Virtual Event

In this program, Wallace and Damour will answer the question: How do we help our children strive for excellence without crushing their spirits?

Wallace will address youth anxiety, parental burnout, and toxic achievement culture as she expands upon the insights presented in her bestselling book, “Never Enough: When Achievement Culture Becomes Toxic and What We Can Do About It.”

We invite you to join us for an in-depth examination of the fundamental human need for mattering — the conviction that individuals are valued for their character and possess the capacity to contribute meaningfully to their families, schools, and communities.

Wallace will offer strategies for cultivating a “mattering core” to ensure children understand their value extends beyond academic or extracurricular accomplishments.

Participants will receive a practical toolkit designed to counter the effects of toxic achievement pressure and social isolation, ultimately fostering intrinsic motivation and resilience in students.

Wallace is an author and co-founder of the “Mattering Movement.” She is a frequent contributor to The Wall Street Journal and The Washington Post and is a Journalism Fellow at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia. She is the author of “Mattering: The Secret to a Life of Deep Connection and Purpose.”

Please share information about this event with friends and relatives. All are welcome to the free weekly GPS events, and no registration is required.
