COMMUNITY READ - Quiet Power: The Secret Strengths of Introverted Kids and Adults

Virtual Event

Program Takeaways:

Introversion is a strength: deep focus, careful listening, creativity, and thoughtful leadership add enormous value at home, in classrooms, and at work.

Today’s “attention economy” can undervalue quiet kids; teach them to prize reflection, depth, and purpose over likes and spotlight.

Practical classroom strategy: use think–pair–share—silent think time → pair discussion → whole-group share—to ensure quieter students’ voices are heard.

At home, build quiet recovery zones and protect decompression time after school; honor temperament while gently scaffolding new experiences.

Help students self-advocate and find community (e.g., Quiet Power Clubs) so introverted kids feel seen, included, and confident.

In this enlightening, relatable, and practical talk Cain will present an essential guide to understanding the introverted personality and show us how introverts think and work in ways that are crucial to today’s society. She will transform how we see introverts and, more importantly, how they see themselves. Come discover why the next generation of quiet kids must be raised to appreciate their crucial strengths.

Cain writes, “The secret to life is to put yourself in the right lighting. For some it’s a Broadway spotlight, for others, a lamplit desk. Don’t think of introversion as something that needs to be changed.”

Using her original research and the latest in neuroscience and psychology, this unlikely award-winning speaker will describe how, for over a century, the value of extroverts has been glorified, while introverts (who compromise half of the population), and their hidden strengths, are largely ignored and undervalued.

Though leadership is often associated with bold confidence and charisma, many great leaders and innovative deep thinkers are soft-spoken and shy. Cain posits that revealing the power of quietude will not only free introverts to be themselves, but will also contribute to advancements in leadership, parenting, and the workforce.

Cain’s books have been translated into more than 40 languages, and her record-smashing TED talks have been viewed over 50 million times. Her most recent book “Bittersweet: How Sorrow and Longing Make Us Whole” was an Oprah Book Club selection.
